Transforming Rural Livelihoods through Sustainable Dairy Farming

About the Trias Project

An initiative focused on sustainable agricultural development in Western Uganda

What is Trias?

Trias (Transforming Rural Livelihoods in Uganda) is a comprehensive development initiative operating in Kabarole District and surrounding areas in Western Uganda. The project focuses on agricultural development, livelihood improvement, and community resilience.

Implemented through partnerships between non-governmental organizations, international donors, and local government bodies, Trias aims to create sustainable economic opportunities while promoting environmental conservation.

The project specifically targets smallholder farmers, women, and youth, providing them with the skills, resources, and market connections needed to improve their livelihoods through sustainable agriculture.

Through its integrated approach, Trias addresses multiple aspects of rural development, including food security, income generation, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment.

Success Stories

Through the Trias project, numerous success stories have emerged from the Kabarole region. Farmers who previously struggled with low yields and limited market access have transformed their operations and livelihoods.

One notable example is the Nkuguni Farmers Group, which increased their collective monthly milk production from 800 liters to over 3,000 liters within two years of implementing Trias-supported practices.

Women-led dairy enterprises have particularly thrived, with many expanding from subsistence production to profitable commercial operations that employ other community members.
